Business: Ron Kammes signs new sponsor
IHRA BUSINESS

2001-08-26

NORWALK, Ohio - Ron Kammes arrived at the IHRA Mopar Parts World Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio feeling like a new man. After suffering some painful indignities at the CARQUEST Northern Nationals in Stanton, Michigan, Kammes had three weeks to develop his strategy for the remainder of the 2001 season.

Kammes needed to do some minor repairs to his 2001 Pro Modified Corvette after banging into the wall during the fourth qualifying round in Stanton. Taking the opportunity to remove the "Never Enough" wording from the doors, stating, "I'd had enough of 'Never Enough". That was on the car when I bought it and it seemed to fit because you can't get enough of racing. However, I felt it was time for me to make the car really mine and reflect my personality".

Kammes recently stated in an article published on the Internet magazine, Competitionplus.com, that he had gotten upset about some unfavorable comments about his performances at St. Louis in the Pro Mod exhibition race. Rather than getting upset and responding negatively to those comments posted on the message board, Kammes stated, "Those people probably have no idea how difficult it is to drive a beast like a Pro Mod car and I realized that it would serve no purpose to respond. Rather, I am determined to prove through the remainder of the year that I have a program that belongs in Pro Mod."

Conversations with the owner and editor of Competitionplus.com, Bobby Bennett, eventually led to a sponsorship deal that will see the livery of the largest Internet magazine devoted to drag racing decorating the doors of Kammes' "Millennium Yellow Corvette".

Kammes continued, "Competitionplus.com is read all over the world and I am pleased to be associated with a group of people who love racing as much as I. We expect to have this combination produce some great results and silence any detractors that may still out there".

It appears that the combination may indeed begin to produce some impressive results as Kammes, in his first run with the new colors and sponsor, posted a 6.329 ET to claim the fourth spot in the first round of qualifying in the Northern National at the showcase track in Norwalk.
